Four soldiers killed, dozens wounded. Follow this report for my rolling updates as more details come in...
The Iranian-backed Hezbollah UAV slammed through the roof of the dining hall full of recruits.
"The IDF confirms that a Hezbollah drone targeted a military base near Binyamina today. Four soldiers were killed, and seven were seriously wounded. All [61] injured soldiers were evacuated to nearby hospitals, and families have been notified. The IDF is investigating the incident and urges the public to avoid spreading rumors.
“Speaking from the base, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari confirmed that the attack took place around 7 PM when a Hezbollah drone infiltrated from Lebanon and struck the base. The situation is now under control, with all injured evacuated, and efforts are underway to inform their families. Hagari emphasized that the threat posed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has been a persistent issue since the beginning of the war, and the IDF is committed to improving its defenses. He assured that the military is investigating how the drone evaded detection.”
Magen David Adom paramedic Aviv Cohen, who was at the scene: "We arrived at the scene with in large numbers from Magen David Adom, the injured were evacuated to us, and we began evacuating them via IDF helicopters and ambulances to hospitals. There was a lot of commotion at the scene, and it was a serious event, but we managed to evacuate the injured quickly to hospital for continued medical care."
MDA paramedic Rafi Sheva reported: "This was a very difficult scene; we declared it a mass casualty event and treated patients suffering from blast injuries and shrapnel. The injuries were severe, and we evacuated the injured to hospitals as quickly as possible for further medical treatment."
“We are at war, and an attack on a training base on the home front is difficult and the results are painful. You operated well to treat and evacuate the wounded and injured. Embrace the bereaved families, accompany the wounded, and strengthen the commanders and soldiers.” Remarks of The Chief of the General Staff LTG Herzi Halevi from the Golani Brigade Training Base following yesterday's incident - IDF Spokesman’s Office.
“The drone used in this attack is believed to be the Mirsad-1, a drone that Hezbollah has deployed for over two decades, originating from Iranian designs,” according to The JPost.
“The Mirsad-1, as noted by experts from the Alma Research Center, is based on Iran's Mohajer-2 model, with slight modifications tailored for Hezbollah’s operations. The drone can carry up to 40 kilograms of explosives, has a top speed of 370 kilometers per hour, and boasts an operational range of 120 kilometers. Hezbollah has utilized the Mirsad-1 for reconnaissance and offensive strikes since 2002, often using it to penetrate Israeli airspace.”
