IDF Airstrike Kills Senior Hezbollah Leader - Video Breaking News
Rolling updates: the hit comes after the Iranian-backed terror group fired over 100 rockets at Tzfat and the northern Galilee and Golan
The IDF said in a statement that Hezbollah ops chief, Ibramin Akil, 63, was targeted in the assassination.
IDF: “Hezbollah identified 14 members killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut, including top commander Ibrahim Aqil. One of those named, Ahmed Wahabi, was called a "commander," a rare designation by Hezbollah. Other commanders identified include Taleb Abdullah, Muhammad Nasser, and Wissam al-Tawil. Aqil and Fuad Shukr were referred to as "great jihadist leaders." Wahabi was reportedly head of Hezbollah's "central training unit." Since October, Hezbollah has named 497 members killed by Israel.”
”Akil has served as the head of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force and Jihad Council, the group’s highest military body. The U.S. State Department has sanctioned Akil for his alleged role in carrying out the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut and that he had directed the taking of American and German hostages in Lebanon and held them there during the 1980s,” according to The Washington Post.
Lebanese media says at least three are dead and 17 wounded in the airstrike.
