Saturday evening update:
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this afternoon (Friday, 10 January 2025) [translated from Hebrew]:
"Just as we promised, the Houthis are paying – and will continue to pay – a heavy price for their aggression against us.
"Today, we attacked terrorist targets of the Houthi terrorist regime along the western coastal strip and deep in Yemen.
"The Houthis are a proxy of Iran and they serve the terrorist objectives of the Iranian axis in the Middle East. They constitute a danger to Israel and to the entire region, including global freedom of navigation.
“I reiterate: We will not tolerate attacks on our citizens and on our country.
“We will take determined and forceful action against anyone who threatens the State of Israel wherever and whenever necessary.”
Breaking Report: “At least 12 underground Houthi targets attacked near Sanaa,” according to Ohad Hamo of Kan News.
IDF Spokesperson: “A short while ago, with the direction of the IDF Intelligence Directorate and the Israeli Navy, IAF fighter jets struck military targets belonging to the Houthi terrorist regime on the western coast and inland Yemen.
“The Houthi terrorist regime has repeatedly attacked the State of Israel, its citizens, and civilian infrastructure in Israel, including UAVs and surface-to-surface missiles. The State of Israel has the right and obligation to defend itself.
“The targets that were struck include military infrastructure sites in the Hizaz power station, which serves as a central source of energy for the Houthi terrorist regime in its military activities. In addition, the IDF struck military infrastructure in the Al Hudaydah, and Ras Isa ports on the western coast. The targets struck are examples of the Houthis’ exploitation of civilian infrastructure for its terrorist activities.
“The Houthi terrorist regime is a central part of the Iranian axis of terror, and their attacks on international shipping vessels and routes continue to destabilize the region and the wider world.
“While the Houthi terrorist regime operates as an independent terrorist organization, it relies on Iranian cooperation and funding to attack the State of Israel and its citizens.
“The IDF will continue to operate at any distance against any threat to the State of Israel and its citizens.”
“Following the Israeli airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen, Defense Minister Israel Katz said “here will be no immunity” for leaders of the Iran-backed group that has been launching missiles and drones at Israel since the beginning of the war:
“Today's strike by the IDF in Yemen is a clear message to the leader of the Houthi terrorist group, Abd al-Malik al-Houthi, and the leaders of the Houthi terrorist group in Yemen: There will be no immunity for anyone,” Katz said in a video statement.
“We will pursue and hunt you down and destroy the terror infrastructures you have established,” he vowed.
The strikes today were launched as a weekly protest was held in Yemen's capital Sanaa in support of the Gaza Strip.
"Thousands of Houthi [supporters] who participated in a hate march against Israel heard up close the power of the Air Force planes," Katz said.
"The port of Hodeidah is paralyzed and the port of Ras Isa is on fire and the message is clear: Whoever harms Israel will be struck much much more," Katz added, according to the Mannie’s War Room Telegram page.
“This is an attack on targets on the Yemeni coastline and in the capital Sanaa area. Some of the targets: Houthi headquarters, launch sites, and radar sites,” Nir Dvori of Ch. 12 News said.
“Unverified reports aver that a senior Houthi official was targeted in an attack. In addition, a headquarters where many commanders were staying was bombed,” according to Dvori.
“Reports suggest that first the US-led coalition attacked the Houthis and after that Israel attacked them as well in the first such combined and coordinated attack in Yemen between Israel and the US,” local reports said. Tamir Morag of Ch. 14 News noted that “the current Israeli attacks in Yemen were not a response to the launch of three explosive UAVs drones in recent days. Instead, they constitute a significant, pre-planned operation, marking a shift in Israel’s approach toward the Houthis—moving from isolated responses to a proactive and ongoing campaign.”
Reporter Itai Blumenthal of Kan News: “last week, the deputy commander of the US Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper, visited Israel, arriving as a guest of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Amir Baram. Among other things, the two held a discussion on the activities in the face of threats from the Houthis from Yemen and cooperation between the armies.”
“‘Above the raids and above all crime, we challenge you, we challenge you, Zionist, we challenge you’ is part of the chants of the march of millions in Al-Sabin Square in Sanaa,” local Houthi-affiliated media boasted.
